Temaet for årets Copenhagen World Music Festival er frihed. Dette debatarrangement om censur og kunstnerisk frihed er det ene af to debatter, FOF København og Copenhagen World Music Festival præsenterer i fællesskab.

When freedom of artistic expression is silenced – debate

FOF København and the Copenhagen World Music Festival invite you to a highly topical debate on censorship and artistic freedom of expression, followed by a concert with Ramy Essam band Egypten & Oriental Mood with Fatma Zidan featuring Bilal Irshed.

About the debate

In a unique debate format that starts off-stage among the audience and culminates with a panel debate, moderator and former Danish Broadcasting Company (DR) journalist Ole Reitove takes the audience on an intellectual and emotional journey where participants will experience what artistic freedom of expression, and the loss of it, means to the artist, to a nation and to the people.

Egyptian musician and composer Ramy Essam, who is known especially for the song ”Irhal”, which is widely considered to be the anthem of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution. His music became the soundtrack for an entire generation of his fellow Egyptians who struggled to attain a better quality of life and a more just society. He now lives in exile.
